Marcia Muller
Marcia Muller attended the University of Michigan and graduated in 1966 with a B.A. in English and in 1971 with an M.A. in journalism. She moved to the San Francisco Bay area, where she would later set her novels featuring Sharon McCone, one of the most influential creations in women's mystery writing. Considered the first great hard-boiled female detective, McCone made her debut in "Edwin of the Iron Shoes" (1977). In 1992, Muller married mystery writer Bill Pronzini, with whom she has collaborated as both an editor and writer.

Monday

FEBRUARY 20

"Here's what we have on the ever-running man," Hy said.

He dropped the fat file on my desk and sat in one of the clients' chairs, stretching out his long legs and crossing them at the ankle.

I poked the file with my fingertip. It was at least three inches thick, with multicolored pages. "This is the job you mentioned last night at dinner?"

"Right."

"And why's he called 'the ever-running man'?"

"Long story. Maybe you should read the file, and then we'll talk."

I shook my head. "I'd prefer an overview from you first."
